About Barbara

From Barbara:

I am a Democratic candidate for Judge of Probate in the Tolland-Mansfield Probate District, which includes Coventry and Willington. I have lived in Coventry for over 24 years with my husband, Bill, and three children.

I graduated from Douglass College of Rutgers University and New England School of Law. After working for several law firms, I opened my own practice in 1997. I represent individuals in cases involving discrimentation and unemployment. Throughout my career, I have had ongoing experience in probate matters and have been appointed by Probate Courts to represent the interests of children and the elderly.

I am currently doing pro bono work through the Connecticut Bar Association in the area of family law and have served as a mediator in employment law matters. Locally, I have served on the PTO in Coventry, and volunteered in sports and school activities, including the Coventry Scholarship Foundation. Finally, I am an active member of the Coventry DTC and have served on the Coventry Town Council, so I have been through a successful campaign.

Barbara Gardner Riordan Endorsed for

Probate Judge

Barbara Gardner Riordan has declared her candidacy for Judge of Probate for the towns of Coventry, Mansfield, Tolland and Willington, and has been endorsed by the Coventry Democratic Town Committee.

Riordan has practiced law for 28 years and has a broad range of legal experience, primarily as a trial lawyer, including probate experience. In making the endorsement, Coventry Democratic Town Chair, Dorothy Grady, pointed out that throughout her career, Riordan has been an advocate for individuals, children, seniors, the disabled, and families facing legal challenges, which makes her an ideal candidate for Probate Judge.

Riordan, a former member of the Coventry Town Council, was Chair of the Labor and Employment Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. She does pro bono work through the Bar Association in the area of family law. For the past 17 years she has had her own law firm in Manchester, where she practices as Barbara Gardner. Riordan lives in Coventry with her husband, Bill. They have three children.

Barbara attended the nomination convention for U.S. Congressman Joe Courtney on

May 14, 2014.
